![]() The app itself is pretty basic, but has some neat features. Make sure you give it a couple hours to charge out of the box and you might need to apply a firmware update (yes you have to apply a firmware update to…a mug). I’d say it took me about five minutes to pair the mug. ![]() For a full list of signals, have a look at Ember’s online legend. The instructions are pretty self explanatory once you locate the type of mug you’re pairing, though I’ve heard a lot of new owners struggle at first with the way the mug “communicates.” Ember communicates through a series of different lighting codes from the base of the mug itself. You have the components of the mug-a saucer shaped charge station, the mug, instructions, and the power source. The Ember smart mug is a pretty straight forward unboxing. I stuck with the classic black colour, though gold was pretty tempting to match some shoes I own. Gold? Rose Gold? Classic Stainless Steel? It’s all here. Recently, Best Buy expanded the colour selection they carry to all sorts of dazzling options. One of the cooler little customization options (for me anyway) is the mug colour selection that’s available. Ember also makes smart mugs in 14oz sizes as well as a 12oz smart travel mug. In this review, I’ll be looking at the smaller 10oz size of the Ember smart mug. With a supposed ability to keep coffee hot for hours after you pour it, the Ember stands to be my last line of defense against my own negligence. I’ll just grit my teeth and suffer my fate. Unlike a lot of pickier drinkers, I won’t pour it out and pour another cup. I will get up out of my seat at 9 AM, pour a hot cup, start working and then drink a cold cup of coffee 2 hours later. You see, I have trouble drinking coffee when I’m supposed to. Like many other coffee “stuff” reviewers out there, getting an Ember was triggered by a simple problem. Also, dislike that the app is only for a phone. The Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug ² is the latest addition to my collection of coffee paraphernalia. I wanted to be able to have hot liquids through the course of the day without waiting so long for the recharge so I have a second disc for my study so that my mug will stay charged all day and also not lose connectivity. This seems to be for one cup of coffee as it has about a 90 minute charge. Also, it takes a very, very, very long time to recharge. But for the price, I shouldn't need to wrestle with them every day. Would I buy them again - probably if they were $20 to $30. I resolved the daytime issue by adding the second mug to an old phone that connects to my wifi. It also loses connectivity frequently if a second mug is paired with the same phone. ![]() I like it, but it loses connectivity overnight it loses connectivity when it needs to be recharged it loses connectivity when you leave it at home and does not reconnect automatically. Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned These mugs are off the hook! Read full review My baby sister because she love tea and it will keep her beverage warm, a regular mug for my daughter who lives in cold WA no brainer there, and my youngest daughter who is a 6th grade teacher the travel mug will be good for her at recess time to swallow down a warm drink also in WA. They are a little pricey but what's the worse? Pouring out cold beverages or paying and investing in never having to do that again? I chose the latter! Pay and you'll say, 'it was well worth it in the end.' I've order about 5 of them the travel mug for my sister who's a nurse because I know she probably never has time to just finish a cup of coffee on her sh ift.
